Why should I read this FAQ?Īs of the writing of this FAQ (Frequently answered question page), I've updated every Mac OS X version on an Intel Mac through 10.4.11 to 10.11 using the method of this FAQ. Pre-MaMacs which are post JanuMacs can use the 10.6.3 retail installer. Post MaMacs without the firmware will need the original system discs that shipped with the Mac to restore the system. Pre-JMacs do not have recovery unless a firmware is installed first. But only do so after trying other tools on my Mac OS X Speed FAQ. When your data is backed up, and your system is hopelessly munged, try the regular recovery mode first. An Internet Recovery option also discussed allows a secure internet connection to restore the original system that shipped with the Mac.
Directions for recovery are available for Intel Macs, and M1 Macs, to utilize it on Apple's website.
